Roof Repairs for Residential Homes in Illinois
Some roofs can be repaired instead of being replaced once the source of the problem is discovered. These remedies can last for years until the roof is of an age to be replaced.
Several factors need to be addressed before considering this option:
- How old is the roof? The older the roof is, the more likely the shingles will not match due to fading and/or the availability of the right shingle brand or color.
- Where is the source of the leak? Most causes of water leakage stem from penetrations through the roof deck such as chimneys, ventilation systems or plumbing pipes. Valleys also are a source of leakage due to the fact that they carry a higher volume of water than the rest of the roof.
- Which side of the house has the leak? A patch on the front of the house may not be very attractive from the street view, but a repair on the side or back of the house may not be as visible.
What Roof Damages Can Be Repaired?
The problem might be wind damage, tree damage or even animal damage. Chimneys and plumbing pipes can have new flashings installed, ventilation systems can be replaced, worn out valleys can be reworked and storm or animal damage can be repaired. In some cases an entire section of the roof can be replaced instead of the entire house as in the case of a needed repair on the front of the house.
