Roof Tear-Offs for Residential Homes In Illinois

Illinois Roof Tear-Offs

Roof tear-offs are important to discover hidden damage that is not visible from an attic inspection or in some cases where there is no attic space; a visual inspection from the outside may produce some history of the structure that needs immediate attention. Also, most communities only allow for two (2) layers of shingles, which may necessitate a tear-off. Removing the old existing layer(s) of shingles will give the new roof a smoother surface for the shingles to lay flatter and potentially last longer.

Other Areas To Address

If Euclid Roofing sees that a roof tear-off is necessary, damaged roof boards or plywood decking will be found and replaced as necessary. An ice shield barrier can then be applied directly to the decking to help reduce the costly damages caused by ice dams. New flashings can also be installed at this time as the original flashings could be inadequate for installation of the new roof or may not last as long as the new roof which would lead to extra repair work at a later date and unnecessary additional costs.

Ventilation of the new roof can also be addressed at this time, especially in older homes, which typically need updated ventilation due to new building codes and roofing manufacturers warranty requirements. If these issues were not resolved, a new roof would very likely not last as long as it should as a poor nailing surface could lead to possible wind damage which would cause leaks and possible damage to interior surfaces.

Homeowners will benefit from a roof tear-off procedure by having peace of mind knowing the new roof is sound and will last for years to come without worrying every time a storm approaches.
